MSVCR80.dll missing, cannot install iTunes

I have a similar problem. I also had an error concerning apple mobile device failing to start.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

• iTunes
• Apple Software Update
• Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
• Bonjour
• Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Some users may need to follow all the steps in the appropriate support document which includes some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Why did this have to happen? Shouldn't updates to Itunes work correctly?

Well they should, and most of the time they do. No idea why this one is causing problems but the steps above should get you sorted out.

Probably lose my playcount. Real nice Apple.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Hi....I am having the exact same problem as everyone here. I followed the steps however, when I got to downloading and installing....I did not see where to "run as administrator." Please help. Thanks.

I also have the problem MCVCR80.dll is missing. Error 7, Windows error 126. I have followed your instuctions to a tee but everytime I try to install iTunes this window comes up:

I first tried Retry, didn't work. Ignore went ahead and installed iTunes but that's when the error windows of the missing dll and windows error appear at the end. Abort walks back the installation.

Is there any other help you can give me?

Try using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. If any component fails to uninstall try moving on to the next step anyway.

I've no personal experience of this, but in one of the threads someone has suggested the Microsoft Fixit Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled which might help.

I would also recommend disabling any anti-virus software while trying to fix things.
