How do I fix Windows error 1114?

I tried to update to a new version of iTunes today (I am running Windows 7). It finished and said there was a problem with the installation and to try again. I did that and got the same error. Then I tried to open iTunes on my computer and got the following error:


Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe

R6034

An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.


Followed by:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.

Error 7 (Windows error 1114)


If I unistall iTunes from my programs list and then download and install it again, will I lose my playlists and library? I am hoping there is a fix that I can use to correct this rather than uninstalling it.

Your library is safe from the repair process, but you ought to be routinely backing up anyway.




Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)


Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support


Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:


C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support


and paste into:


C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes


The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Thank you. Installed the latest .Net 4.0 and 4.54 but did not work.


Was pulling my hair out until I followed your instructions.


The Apple Mobile Device Support did not uninstall properly, but I made sure I removed the Apple Folder from the Program-Common folder as well, and I finally manage to reinstall a new version of itunes and the error message is gone.

Thanks, these tips really seem like something that would help but it didn't, though.


I'm running Windows 8.1 and had followed your recommendations and those that are on Apple website for at least 5 times. Still.


"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 1114)", and "Instruction address ... applied to memory address ... Memory cannot be written. OK to exit the application" follows.


Guess I'm totally helpless in all that computer stuff.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.


The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.


Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.


The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.




Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

UPD.


I actually just need to synchronize my new iPhopne 5s to my computer.

As I had plugged it, I was running an older version of iTunes (with the auto-renewing option turned off). It immediately notified me that this version of iTunes doesn't support the current version of iOS anymore, therefore, I just got rid of that iTunes version and tried to get a newer one.

And this is what I have nowadays...
