Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

and paste into:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Curious that, here in the "iTunes for Mac" board, I should see a fix for people running iTunes for Windows. I'm having the same problem, but I'm running iTunes for Mac. Silly me, thinking I could find a solution in this board. There are some other links that seem to speak to the same problem, so I'll look to find an answer there. Maybe in the iTunes for Windows board. Hmph.

Save yourself some aggrevation and perform the following for each of your devices. This fix was posted to another query by a fellow named Andrei from Romania. It worked for me and I completed it in seconds!

I've solved the same problem and in order for you to do so you have to follow these steps if you are running windows:

1- go into the device manager

2- go to portable devices (it is right under network adapters)

3- right click apple iphone (or ipad or any other apple device that is connected) and click update drivers

4- browse your drivers from the following path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

This is a much simpler fix than removing and reinstalling!
