Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.
Thank you. That worked!
Thanks @Ben_Town. That worked for me as well.
Thank You!! Very clear, easy and reassuring. It worked perfectly.
Curious that, here in the "iTunes for Mac" board, I should see a fix for people running iTunes for Windows. I'm having the same problem, but I'm running iTunes for Mac. Silly me, thinking I could find a solution in this board. There are some other links that seem to speak to the same problem, so I'll look to find an answer there. Maybe in the iTunes for Windows board. Hmph.
for macs I find on the mac clearing the caches seems to fix a great many things. may want to look for that on the boards.
THANK YOU BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, thank you. I get so mad every time there's an update and my ipod stops working. Stupid Apple. But you're a life saver, so thanks again. Thanks.
Oh my god, thank you so much, Ben. I literally tried everything else and nothing worked and I had to go for a week without backing up my phone - it was really stressfull. But then I did what you said and it miraculously started working, so thank you so much!
Save yourself some aggrevation and perform the following for each of your devices. This fix was posted to another query by a fellow named Andrei from Romania. It worked for me and I completed it in seconds!
I've solved the same problem and in order for you to do so you have to follow these steps if you are running windows:
1- go into the device manager
2- go to portable devices (it is right under network adapters)
3- right click apple iphone (or ipad or any other apple device that is connected) and click update drivers
4- browse your drivers from the following path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
This is a much simpler fix than removing and reinstalling!
Thanks Ben - that worked for me :-)
Pam615,
Your (much simpler) advice worked like a charm. Thank you so much for saving an hour of my life!!
Thank you Ben!!! I was pulling my hair out until I tried your recommendations!
You are very welcome, mikerisner!
Thank you Ben_Town for helping solve this vexing problem with v.11.1
