First of all: many thanks to turingtest2. Instructions were perfect.
The only problem remaining - which I think is related, at least it started from the same moment that the APSDaemon destroyed iTunes - ist that when starting Outlook 2010 (on Windows 7) I keep getting a message "MobileMe Services has stopped working" (twice) and then "Outlook has stopped working". Luckily that last message is not entirely true, while Outlook works decently if I ignore the message, including synchronizing contacts with iCloud. It is bothersome, though, while Outlook takes longer to start and has become unstable. For example if I click the message away, Outlook collapses.
Any suggestions what I might do?
Uninstall MobileMe. The service has been discontinued.
