My new iMac is lock up help

My new 2013 iMac is locked up. I shutdown the computer using the on/off button on the back, waited a few minutes and restarted the computer.

My mouse arrow moves on the screen and the right mouse works but my left mouse does not work.

The dock icons do not move when I mouse over them. When I move the mouse over a dock icon and use the right mouse I am able to open an application but not able to do anything else.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I tried again to fix the problem, but instead of holding down the on/off button I used my right mouse on restart and it restarted and now it is working fine.

I have had macs for years and never had this type of problem before.

I hope it stays fixed!
