Removing a lost synced album?

In 2012 I synced an album of photos onto my phone. I'm trying to clear my phone of all unnecessary photos etc but I cant seem to remove this album because I cant find/dont have the album on my laptop anymore.

Under the Photos tab on iTunes its greyed out as though I have nothing syned onto my phone and when I check and uncheck to 'remove photos' nothing happens.
