iTunes 11.1.4 installation problem

Along with a lot of other users I had problems yesterday with the installation of update 11.1.4 on my windows7 64bit computer. After a lot of frustration getting nowhere I resorted to 'phoning Apple Support. Despite all the postings on discussion groups the guy there told me I was the first to report the problem and he had no knowledge of it. and they would 'phone me back this morning at 09.45 gmt today.

Following yesterday's call I decided to do a system restore to iTunes 11.1.3. iTunes didn't work immediately but only after an iTunes repair in the uninstall software screen.

The call came from Apple this morning and even now the Apple girl told me that she had no knowledge and she did not have aproblem with 11.1.4. I find this totally amazing and I think they need to get their act together. Why did they not pull the update when there were so many problems? Perhaps they don't read information posted in discussion groups.

The Apple assistant seemed surprised when I told her I would be sticking with11.1.3!!

Hey guys. 🙂

For those of you having issues removing certain parts of iTunes to troubleshoot these issues (in particular, the Apple Mobile Device Support component), give this tool that Microsoft put out for situations like this a try. This should allow you to remove the AMDS stuff and proceed with a nice, stable reinstall.

Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled - http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en

This tool might take a little while to do its thing, but it works well for what it is designed to do. 🙂

Also, you can get some instructions on how to use said tool over at this article from the Apple knowledge base:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when removing Apple software in Windows - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3704

(Note that the above article was originally written for a different type of issue, but the instructions apply to this issue quite nicely regardless.)

Good luck!

I have Windows 7 Home 32 bit version. I followed these directions exactly and the new iTunes version still did not install correctly. I had created a retore point just before uninstalling and as a result was able to successfully retore to the old version. Thanks. It is apparently working for some but not for me. I will wait for the next version before updating.

Hi,

Had the same problem today when auto updates shut me out of itunes after the update.

I resolved by uninstalling iTunes and then downloading the prior version and installing. All worked fine at this point.

In Apple Update you can then choose "Tools" "Download Only", download the file and do a manual install.

Everything is now working fine on Windows 8 with the new version.

There is obviously an issue with the installer.

As long as you've got access to your library I don't blame you. 😉

I've tried everything posted twice. And am wiping all APPLE stuff again as TT2 suggested. This has been an "APPLE" perfect storm for me, the only reason I opened and updated Itunes was because my Ipod of only 5 years died and I bought a new one. So my love for APPLE right now on a scale of 1 to 10 is about negavtive 28. My biggest concern after I do another install to an older version is why did I lose my sound card and audio controls during all this? I keep getting this message

"Itunes has detected a problem with your audio/video confiuration playback may not operate properly"

So I thought I would press on and just load my music on to my Ipod and I thought TT2's wipe worked for me until I plugged in the new Ipod and nothing came up for Itunes (usually the I tunes window pops up).

I don't know why my sound card went away, maybe it just died at this "perfect" time.

Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave.

PS. How do I get the previous version back?

I too experienced the installation failure followed by the MSVCR80.DLL is missing error every time I booted my computer. Thank you for the detailed uninstall instructions turingtest2. Everything has returned to normal after the reboot.

I did not try the reinstall since I am hoping Apple will fix the installer in the next version.

Does anyone know if Apple Support is now aware of this issue.

You guys are great....way to go!!!
