Q: MACBOOK PRO HD SWAP ISSUE

Hello.

2010 Macbook Pro HD Swap issue

I swapped my HD to a used 500GB compatible HD. I put in the OS X cd to boot holding the C key but after 4 minutes I get an error message that tells me to shut down and turn the computer back on. Same thing over and over. Can anyone please help me? I did not reformat that HD before putting it in being I figured the system boot would do that on its own. Any help would be appreaciated. Ive also already tried the option/R/D/C keys. Nothing changes.

Thanks!!

MacBook Pro, MID 2010 model

It sounds like the lens on your optical drive is dirty if you're not getting to the installation menu. Use a cleaning DVD or wrap a microfiber cloth around a credit card and carefully slide it in and out a few times.
