Q: When solving MSVCR80 issue will I lose my downloads

I also have the missing MSVCR80.dll after a failed update but before following the suggested repair method could anyone tell me if all the cd's that I have downloaded will disappear. I have not purchased from iTunes so I'm not sure if my music is on any database or will there still be backup files in explorer?

Kelly, I had your exact same issues, and I did two things: I run Windows 7 and I did the first step in 'Issues installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows'  (found it online when I did a search for that exact statement) and it's emptying your Temp folder.  Not sure if you need to do that or not, but I did.

That was 2 nights ago, and when that didn't solve the problem, I was thisclose to throwing my laptop out the door into the dumpster.  This morning I thought I'd give it one more try, and I found this discussion string.

I followed the steps below, and ba da bing, my iTunes is back up, everything is there, just downloaded a cd and then burned it. It's all good!  So try it exactly as written (btw, 'press on' means 'move on to the next step' if your Apple Mobile Device Support thingy won't uninstall, mine didn't and I just kept on going to the next step).

Oh, and if you log in to your computer when you start it  (mine is password protected, I'm the only user), you ARE the administrator, so no worries on the 'right click' the installer thing, just double click it and let it do it's thing.  Good luck!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

    • iTunes
    • Apple Software Update
    • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    • Bonjour
    • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Glad it helped you out but I've updated my advice slightly now.

Thank you SO much, TT2!!!  I have to say that even though I read through most of this thread and saw that no one lost their Apple library, I still had my heart in my throat when I was following your instructions.  But I followed each of your steps and it worked perfectly.  You're the best!!!

This helped a lot, I am going through your additional support page because I am rid of the APSDaemon MSVCR80.DLL error but now when I open itunes I'm getting that it wasn't installed properly and I can't burn or import CDs. As I do do that, I need that to work!

I wanted to ask, though - anyone else have their computer not recognize their CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive at the same time or do I have a coincidental issue happening with that?

I answered my own question. Yes, my disc drive problem was a part of the itunes installation issue. So just in case anyone else experiences this as a part of the install here is how I fixed it accidentally, all thanks to turingtest2.

I ran through the instructions on tt2's more detailed page and uninstalled QuickTime after uninstalling everything else because itunes was the only thing using it. tt2, the itunes update GOD, said if nothing else you use uses it, it can be helpful to get rid of that, too. I am pretty sure I won't miss it so it's gone. My disc drive was still not operating at this time. I downloaded the itunes update again from tt2's helpful link.

I rebooted, went to My Computer to delete the other files, which I did not have incidentally, and there was my disc drive. itunes is likewise fully operational now.

Thank you so much!! I hope that my sharing my disc drive problem will help someone else because I was about to take my beast/baby in to be worked on which would have likely cost a fortune and the replacement of hardware I really didn't need to replace.

GoPackGo65 you nailed it.  I followed your instructions to a tee and I was able to finally get my itunes downloaded to my computer.  Thanks for your post and instructions.  Very appreciated.
