Q: When solving MSVCR80 issue will I lose my downloads

I also have the missing MSVCR80.dll after a failed update but before following the suggested repair method could anyone tell me if all the cd's that I have downloaded will disappear. I have not purchased from iTunes so I'm not sure if my music is on any database or will there still be backup files in explorer?

iPod classic, Windows 7, Dell with Intel core 7 +8gb Ram

Thank you for your help T, the missing msvcr80.dll is no longer missing.  This time it says the APSDaemon.exe is missing.  What is that???   Where is it?  Appreciate your help.  Maxine169

Hi. Offhand I'm not sure which component of the iTunes installation is responsible for that file. You could try working with the Programs & Features Control Panel and repairing Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes in turn to see if one of them fixes the problem. After each repair test iTunes to see if it now works. Please let us know the results.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand why iTunes users have to go through all this garbage when an update screws up their iTunes. It makes me angry because there are many people who do not know how to do this sort of thing (think 75 or 80 year olds or  people who just aren't computer savvy). And I know I really don't want to spend the time doing it, even though I certainly can do it. Is no one else upset about this? It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't? Really?! Sorry if this is harsh but everyone is always complaining about Microsoft...but this is APPLE, the god of the computer world and it's messed up! I'm very frustrated.

I couldn't agree more, so much time wasted by so many users ............ TT2 has done a wonderful job helping people sort this mess out but it shouldn't be like that ........... If it were not that I have access to iTunes on my iPad I would have lost everything because it's all screwed up on my PC after the last update. The suggestions given so far in the forum haven't worked for me (probably because I am not as computer savvy as other members - but then I shouldn't need to be). Is there any chance that a future iTunes update could fix the problem?

If you haven't been there already my updated (and evolving) advice is at Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. The second box should have the process you need to repair things, the rest of the document provides supplementary advice. Your library on your computer is safe. When the iTunes installation is repaired all your media will be there. I can't say if the next update will be able to repair those installations that are currently broken. I've no doubt there are people at Apple frantically trying to work out why this release has caused such difficult problems for those that it has, while still installing perfectly normally for the vast majority.

I did follow the instructions. I uninstalled 5 or 6 of the 7 items on the list of things that needed to be uninstalled (I didn't have the other 1 or 2 on my computer), rebooted and reinstalled both iTunes and iCloud (as administrator - which I had to download from IE, rather than Chrome because I couldn't figure out how to save the software to my desktop from Chrome) and it's working ok now...but why did it suddenly stop working and why does it require uninstalling up to 7 pieces of software. I wasted my whole evening to get it fixed, when what I REALLY needed to be doing is putting something into iTunes that I needed to have on my iPod. What a pain. It would be good to know that Apple is frantic, but it often feels like no one really cares much about the consumer.

I think the point is, this happens often and the "customers" have to implement a long-round about way to fix an Apple product that many folks pay to use i.e. iTunes syncing with devices like iPhones, iPads and other Mac devioces. After spending a grip on those devices alone, I think it's fair to say Apple should provide a better product, at least when it comes to updating it's own product? I'm tired of it.

It is somewhat unfortunate that there isn't as yet an easier way to resolve this. Ideally Apple would publish a dedicated repair tool that is guaranteed to clean up all residual traces of any prior copies of their software and then reinstall the current version.

I have tried EVERY bleeding instruction to the letter and it has NOT worked.  Still get the runtime error 7 and the mobile driver device nonsense message.  I just want to sync my damned iphone 5 and get on with my life.  Apple, please just send an update that works.  This is frustration beyond belief!!!  Why do I have to fiddle with my computer for an update to work?  There is nothing wrong withe peolple's computers it is the PROGRAM.  Fix it!  And if you are fixing it put up a notice to say you are fixing it please and thank-you!

they have many of us so dedicated to their devices and how we buy, listen and even watch TV (Apple TV) that it makes it hard to not be a customer. they are geniuses when it comes to that aspect but sooner or later Apple will be just another device in the house next to others that provide the same or better service(s).
