Yes. iWeb 3 is compatible with all systems up thru Mavericks. However, iWeb has been discontinued and unsupported for about 2 years now. There are better apps that contain more modern features.

Some of them are EverWeb (a very iWeb like app), Flux 4, Freeway Express, Freeway and Quick 'n Easy Web Builder. For other possible candidates search the iWeb forum for "iweb alternative" to get a list of topics where these are discussed.

Yes, if you have iWeb on your Mac then of course you can still use it - it is an application like any other and will still work depending on what OS you have and what version of iWeb you are using. If you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks, then iWeb 09 is better and you will have problems with iWeb 08.

However, Apple has not supported or sold iWeb for at least 2 years now, so it might be a good time to move onto other software that is actively supported and updated such as Freeway Pro/Express 6, WebAcappella 4, Flux 4 and the most like iWeb is EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

It did and I think you will find that iWeb 09 still works with Yosemite and El Capitan, although some people have reported encountering some problems with iWeb 09 and El Capitan. The problem is that you are still using iWeb 08 and I think you would find that if you had iWeb 09, you would not be encountering these problems now. As it is, you may find it hard to get hold of unsupported software now.

The whole reason that Apple ditched iWeb, was because it got rid of firstly dot Mac and then MobileMe - MobileMe was Apples own hosting platform and they decided that iCloud was the way to move forward for storage, but not web hosting, so there was no longer any need to iWeb, which is why they stopped developing it and stopped support for it.

Apple is better at developing the hardware and I think they probably decided to leave the software to other companies that concentrate on it, such as Rage Software that produce EverWeb.

Either you need to upgrade to iWeb 09 - Amazon or Ebay and look for either the iLife 09 or iLife 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09/3. However, upgrading to unsupported software is not a good idea, so I would suggest that you take a look at the alternatives out there and find something that suits.

There is RapidWeaver, Sandbox, EverWeb, Flux 6, Freeway Pro/Express, Adobe Muse (not cheap) and you'll need to pay on an annual basis for this. You can then consider the online web builders such as Wordpress.com, Wix.com, Weebly.com, Moonfruit.com and others. However, remember with these you need to publish the sites to the servers of WordPress and Wix etc, but you can add your own domain name if you wish.

If you decided to go forward and use the Content Management System's (CMS), then these are free to download - take a look at Drupal, WordPress.org and Joomla.

There are many alternatives out there that you can use at affordable prices.

Yes, but remember that you also need a hosting account on GoDaddy as well as the domain name registration. Once you have the hosting account set up, then yes, you can publish your site by publishing to a folder on your desktop and then using an ftp programme such as Cyberduck, Transmit etc., to upload your site to your hosting account on GoDaddy.

I used RapidWeaver for some years, as it was fairly simple, though not allowing for much free-form creativity such as one finds in iWeb or perhaps (with a lot of study) Dreamweaver (which I have, but have never tried). Like RapidWeaver, the site I'm presently using with Yola is hard for me to work with because you have to insert boxes and deal with their constraints. I'm sure the others you've listed are OK, but as mentioned, I'll probably be happy enough using iWeb 2 on my PowerMac G4 running Tiger.

Oh, and thanks, Old Toad for your tip on the Popup Slideshow fix. It looks ingenious!

Dear Ethmoid: Thank you very much for your response, and for taking the time to do so. It is good to hear that I can make us of my work on iWeb. I do have a hosting account and a domain name registration with them. However, when I go to publish my iWeb to a folder on my desktop, I am unable to do it, because I receive a pop up dialog box stating that I may publish to Mobile Me. That cannot happen, so I do not understand how I could publish to a folder on my desktop. Thank you for any additional help that you might offer. Jeff Mayer

Open iWeb and then on the left hand side, click on top on the site name of the site that you want to publish and then you should get options for that site come up on the right hand side. There should be a drop down menu, with the old option of publishing to MobileMe, which you cannot do and then directly publishing to ftp and then publishing to your desktop. You need to select the publish to a desktop option.

Other than that I am not sure, as I gave up on iWeb a long time ago now. Unfortunately, my last laptop that had iWeb on it and was nearly 10 years old died recently and had to be replaced, so no more iWeb I'm afraid.
