Q: My Mac Book Pro wont start up as it powers down then comes back on with a grey screen for 5 seconds then keeps doing this, can someone help?

Hi

 

My Mac Book Pro wont boot up on start up, when i power it up it has a grey screen with the apple logo, after 5 seconds it shuts down then powers back up and keeps doing the same!

Can someone give me any advice on how to solve this problem?

    Hold down Cmd-r and see if it boots. If it does, it will be in Recovery. Select the First Aid tab and the Hard drive. Then, click Repair disk. If it finds errors but corrects them, run repair again.

     

    Reboot and see if it works.

     

    If that doesn't work, try booting into Safe Mode by holding down the shift key. If you have FileVault enabled, you can't boot into Safe Mode, so I'm not sure what else to do at this point.

    I tried to boot up with Cmd-R but i have to hold them keys through the whole process, if i let go of the keys it turns off! It dislays repair disk in the first aid after ive verified disk but when i do this it comes up with reformat disk and back up files but I dont know how to do this? Please help

    It sounds like your hard drive is failing or has failed. It cannot repair the disk and is suggesting you back up and format the drive. Do you already have a backup?

     

    A couple of things to try first:

    Thanks for helping me ... but i nothing  soomes to work as i keeps powering down every time i try so i will have to send it in for a repair job!
