Cannot uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

Have been reading that EVERYONE is having problems with the new upgrade so I have uninstalled every Apple program but this one ...it gets to the end of the process and the green "loading" bar reverses itself! I have tried 10-15 times so far ... never had a problem uninstalling before. Everything else uninstalled just fine. Is there a way around this?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I too have the same problem as wi_rizzo. I followed the above procedures and tried removing all 5 of the items but Apple Mobile Device Support would not uninstall so I followed the directions in HT1923 and manually removed the Common Files/Apple folder. I rebooted and saw that the Apple Mobile Device Support is still listed and once again I tried to uninstall but no success. I downloaded iTunes and began installation but subsequently received a message: User uploaded file

At this point I do not know what to do other than I need to keep my contacts and calendars synched between my PC, 2 iPhones and iPad.

Any ideas?

Same exact problem here. Windows 7 service pack 1.

I'm guessing incompatibility with other legacy Apple products. Also Microsoft Fixit did remove the Apple Mobile Device software for me too-- it wouldn't uninstall using standard methods.

The recommended solution and instructions worked perfectly and I'm listening to music right now using the latest iTunes version!

Much appreciated.
