My AppleCare expired and I never used it. Did I just throw away $200?

My mid-2010 21.5 inch display iMac is in good condition and still operating at fast speed, but, my AppleCare extended two-year warranty just expired four days ago and I never used it. Can I put some of this money towards a new extended warranty program? There has to be some sort of program I can do. I'm scared that now that its no longer protected, it will give out :/

No, not at all. You've had the security of insurance over this period which is what you paid for. All insurance is a form of gambling. Depending on what's available in your country you may be able to get an insurance policy against breakdown but it will get more and more costly, the older your machine gets. Like human beings, the one certainty in life is death ... and that applies to machines too. 😀

Although you didn't have need to use it, I think you did a smart thing having it. If these things go wrong they can be scary expensive to fix. I've got two Macs that both had the extended warranty (now expired) that I never used. It won't stop be from getting it again when I buy a new Mac in the future.

@71: Greetings, I see you're inching you way to L6. Look forward to seeing you in the Lounge before too long.

(apologies to zeroshorty for this slight diversion 😉).
