First of all do as little as possible with your computer. Stop using it. The document should still be there but the more you use your computer, the greater risk that you will begin overwriting it.
Perhaps the safest option is to take your computer to a specialist Data Recovery Company. This will cost & could be big bucks. Worth it if the data is very valuable or precious to you.
Alternatively you could try downloading and using data recovery software yourself. It may not work but it is a much less costly option. I'm not an expert on the comparative effectiveness of Data Recovery Software, but watch this You Tube video for an illustration of one such program in action. (I'm not promoting this, nor am I claiming it to be better or worse than anything else available):

Oh, and if/when you get your data recovered (or even if you don't) get to grips with Time Machine - it is crazy to do important work without a backup!!!
