Q: Add money to gift card without setting an automatic allowance.

My 9 year old has an iPod Touch that I set up with a gift card. I need to add money but do NOT want to set up an allowance or attach my credit card. I just want to periodically add money as he earns it.

My son can only Wifi... He does not have e-mail... He can text...

Hopefully I have not left out any needed information.

Anyone know how to do this?

You can gift a money amount from another iTunes account. That other account musy have a credit card

Note: When purchasing an iTunes Gift, a valid credit card must be on file; you can't purchase an iTunes Gift with store credit.

Thanks for your reply. I am grateful that you took the time to respond. However, your reply does not even remotely answer the question that I asked. I'll try to clarify my question some more.

I am not asking how to buy a gift card, I've already done that before. I want to add money to the gift card that is already associated with my son's account. I'm hoping that there is a way to log on periodically (when I choose... not automatically like an allowance) and add whatever amount my son has earned.

If I purchase gift cards on my account... then I have to take the extra time to then go and associate them with my sons account. It's pretty easy to send a gift card to an e-mail address... but... my son is 9 and he does not have access to the e-mail account.

    Is this clearer?

Gift cards are one-time use, not refillable.

The only thing I can think of is a refillable credit/debit card. You can add money to the card. That does not involve Apple.

Expanding on what lllaass said, an iTunes gift card is not "associated" with an iTunes Store account, per se. When you buy a gift card, it has a code on the back that is redeemed in a user's iTunes Store account. The value of the card is added to that user's iTunes Store account and the card is no longer worth anything and can be discarded. Therefore, as lllaass said, there is nothing on the card to "refill".

So if you want to add credit to your son's iTunes Store account, you need to purchase either a physical gift card or electronic gift certificate (the latter would be purchased through your own iTunes Store account and you could send the gift to your own email account) and then redeem the relevant code in your son's iTunes Store account.

You could also try a refillable "credit" card, setting that up in your son's iTunes Store account, but most such cards have no billing address associated with them and hence may not work in the iTunes Store.

    Regards.
