IMatch -- can I transfer songs if no ITunes?

Just got a new Macbook Air and most of my songs didn't transfer from my PC laptop. I want to do IMatch. The problem is that my husband tried to update ITunes on the laptop a few days ago and there was an error message, and now ITunes is missing and it won't reinstall. My songs are still sitting on the laptop (4000+). Will IMatch pick them up if ITunes isn't on the laptop?

No, iTunes Match will only pick songs up from iTunes (match needs to be enabled on it) and its library.

What was the error that the you got trying to update iTunes ? A fair number of people have had problems with the current version for PCs.

If R6034 then try this : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5823900?answerId=24626179022#24626179022

If a message relating to MSVCR80 then try : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822086?answerId=24620553022#24620553022

You could also copy the songs over from the PC (e.g. via an external drive or flash drive) and add them to your Mac's iTunes library via File > Add To Library. By default your library is stored under :

  • Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
  • Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
  • Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes
  • Windows 7 and Windows 8: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes
