iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

.

G'day ilkaflood,

Technically challenged ?, rubbish I say.

You can use a Computer and I think you can also follow clear printed instructions because Apple will not bring out a fix, as they already have !!

How about going to the respective hyperlink for your operating system.

This is the post and I recommend that you expand the OS applicable to your System.

Its a pain in the rear having to do all this, but it works ☺

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP

or

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

When you have loaded the respective link, remember to "Expand all " option at the top just above the bold black "Overview", print a hard copy of the instructions and when you follow each Stem 1, 2 and 3 and tick off the task as you have completed each item, also remember to reboot after each step, i.e. after Step 1, then 2, then 3, before you start using iTunes again !.

I have folowed them on at least 37 different windows operating systems and they work !!

I suppose you could call me a 72 year old Technically Un-challenged Grandad and if I can do it, so can you.😀

I was going to offer and do this for you, alas the Admin of this Forum will not allow me to give you my TeamViewer number or Skype ID so we could communicate.

First, temporarily disable any anti-virus programs.

1) When installing, I right-clicked on iTunes64Setup.exe, and chose "Run as administrator"

2) I still received the error message, but chose to ignore. I tunes then launched.

3) click the Windows start button (the windows logo on the screen). Right-click on "Computer" and choose "Manage"

4) Click on "Services and Applications"

5) Click on "Services"

6) Find the "Apple Mobile Device" Service from the list, and double-click on it

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components

If applicable, disconnect any iPod or iOS device and close Microsoft Outlook.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later).

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (see note 1 below)
  • iCloud (if present)
  • MobileMe (if present) (see note 2 below)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support
Reboot your computer. Delete any of the following folders where they can be found: (see note 3 below)
  • C:\Program Files\Bonjour
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
  • C:\Program Files\iPod
  • C:\Program Files\iTunes
also on 64-bit systems:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

Download the iTunes setup file and run it to install. Use an account with administrative rights. This can usually be achieved by right-clicking on the downloaded file and selecting Run as... or Run as Administrator. In some cases a combination of Shift or Ctrl keys may be required for the option to show, or it may not be necessary.

If you deleted iCloud and reinstalling iTunes doesn't automatically reinstall it visit iCloud Control Panel.
