iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

.

G'day ariddel,

I presume you have used the instructions in this document ??

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Also Have you set your system "Folder and Search" options to show Hidden files, folders and drives ?

You are using "Programs and Features." to perform the uninstall(s) I trust ?

Also disabled your Internet Security / Anti-Virus while you are performing the outlined steps (disabled your Internet Security / Anti-Virus is Not needed in most cases) and remembering to reboot after each Step, i.e. after Step 1, then after Step 2, etc.

While trying to remove / delete any Folders, if you get any errors like fail messages, go into the folder and delete single files, continue to try and delete all files in the master folder ignoring subfolders.

- Then reboot and then try to delete the stubborn folder again and you will succeed deleting it this time.

- This should then complete step 2 and you reboot before continuing to Step 3.

I am sorry to hear that this didn't work for you.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

This is werid as I was having the exact same issue as you. I spent many hours thinking it was MS C++ Library issue. I reinstalled all versions of C++ runtimes and then tried the iTunes installation and I was seeing the same issue as you. Once I finally uninstalled all that was mentioned below via add/remove programs I didn't even reboot, I just tried the iTunes install and was suprised that it finally worked. I was even more shocked that it didn't hose my iTunes Library.

After trying many things I finally removed all Apple software

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

G'day Vaquero,

Giving partyial advice is not a good idea !!

I suggest that penelope184 follows the outlines in,

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP\

or

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

in accord with penelopes184 Operating System

Besides you missed out on deleting the old folders that contain corrupted data files !!

G'day again penelope184,

Is this 64bit 0r a 32 bit installation ?

In the mean time this might also help,

I presume you have used the instructions in this document ??

If you use Skype or TeamViewer let me know, should you not be able to complete the above instructions or do not have sufficient Technical Know-How to do so.

G'day jacki03,

Sorry to tell you but you again have a corrupted installation of iTunes and you will need to start all over again with the uninstall instructions

Quick Time was not affected by the corrupted iTunes, however now that you have also performed the uninstall and reinstall of the Quick Time player, uninstall it for now and reinstall it after you have completed the corrections to iTunes.
