Windows XP on Powerbook G4?

Hi all,

Finally, I have decided to buy a Powerbook G4 eventhough I don't know anything about Mac (apart from turning it on and click around)

I'm a windows user. The reason I bought this laptop is I can't resist its beauty. 🙂

I was wondering if I could run Windows XP on this machine, or any tricks that can allow me to work on Win XP & Mac.

Here are my laptop details:

Powerbook G4 , 17 inches LCD
Mac OS 10.4.3
Processor 1.67 Ghz Power PC G4
Memory 512 MB DDR SDRAM

Natively no. XP does not run on PowerPC based Macs. It never has.

Your only option, aside from upgrading to an Intel based Mac is to use Virtual PC from Microsoft.

However you must be aware that VPC is emulation of Windows...an OS consisting of millions of lines of codes...it will be SLOW, and has no graphics accleration support.

well, in case it's only the option, then I'll have to go for it.

I only use it for email and Microsoft Office, hopefuly it will be okay.

I know this is a odd question, but unless you need MS Access why not get Office 2004 for Mac?

You should be able to run Office and email just fine, but VPC costs over $200, thats a lot just to run Office and outlook.

you would really enjoy Microsoft Office for Mac much better than the slow and costly virtual pc, with xp and office- MUCH MUCH faster...

Windows XP, MS Office, and Virtual PC - $500 (rough estimate)

Office for Mac - $150 (rough estimate)
