Q: cannot login to icloud on phone, old user id causing problems

Help, I have an old user id that was backed up onto my computer. I got a new iphone 5s and restored from computer instead of from icloud. Now i can't sign into icloud on my new phone and cannot turn off "Find iphone". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gone to the icloud.com web site there is no trace of the old user id.

That sounds as though it's the same account with a changed address. If so...

 

The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.

 

You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

    Is the old ID a completely seperate ID or is it an earlier version of your current ID.

    I thought that I just edited the user id, but I must have created a completely separate user id. the old user id was an email account that i no longer have, (changed internet provider).

    What makes you think you must have created an entirely new one.

     

    It's important that you determine this correctly since there are different steps for each scenario.

    when the phone arrived yesterday, i did a restore from my computer (my old iphone 4s that was lost). I should have done a restore from icloud. apparently, from that restore, there is an old user id now on my icloud. I have tried to enter all possible passwords but cannot enter the correct one. I have gone to the icloud.com web site there is no trace of the old user id.

    Maybe after i changed my icloud user id and my primary email address for this account, I never backed up to the computer, and when I did a restore from the computer, it saved the old user id to my phone?

    I tried it, but it sent a verification email to the old user id/email address, which i have no access to. I was almost happy, thought that it was going to work, any other suggestions?

    If you've used that email address with that account previously it doesn't send out a verification email, it changes it without verification.
