How do you get email to sync across devices using Verizon.net?

I'm trying to set up mail on my iPhone 5s, using Verizon email - which is already set up on my Macbook Pro. Every time I add the verizon account to mail, it loads hundreds of emails I've already retrieved on the Macbook, pulling directly from the server- nothing that I've set up in Mail on the computer comes over to the phone. Apple support told me the Verizon account needs to be set up as imap for incoming, all the verizon instructions say it has to be POP. I don't want to start using a new email address, so I'd rather not forward everything through iCloud or gmail. Help?

Verizon.net does not support IMAP. You can use a Gmail address without changing your current address. I use Gmail to pull email from an old POP account I don't quite want to close. Gmail grabs it all, labels it and even lets me answer using the old address if I want to. Over time, I've transitioned most people off of the old address.

The more devices you have, the more you're going to want an IMAP account.

Best of luck.

As far as I know Verizon still does not support imap. However I have an excellent workaround.

In mac mail, go to mail-preferences-rules-add rule (this is for received mail)

In 1st dropdown window select-any

Next select-any recipient

Next select-contains

Next enter "your verizon email"

Next select-every message

Next select-move message

Next select-Inbox icloud

Next select OK

Then add rule again (this is for sent mail)

Select-any

Select-from

Select-begins with

Enter "your verizon email)

Select-copy message

Select-Sent iCloud

This will be the same as imap. Any email you edit will change on all devices

This method is great been using it for months. However, I've notice that I can't download/view new email from my Iphone mail direct. New messages show up on phone only after I've checked mail via my laptop. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks.

That's because those rules run on the clients side, your laptop (mac mail). The 2 rules rearrange your messages and move/copy them from Verizon mailbox to your iCloud mailbox. It makes sense if those mail aren't in your phone (setup to access iCloud mailbox) unless you use your laptop to check mail.

If Verizon allows forwarding, enable that. Sign in to Verizon webmail and enable forwarding to forward all Verizon incoming mail to your iCloud email address.
