Problems syncing iPad since updating to new version of iTunes

Ever since updating to the new version of iTunes yesterday afternoon, my iPad refuses to sync with my iMac. Instead, it simply gives me the message "The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)." I have tried completely restarting my iPad, my iMac, and my wireless network, and nothing works. I'm getting more than a little irritated. Anybody have any advice on how to rectify this issue, short of praying that Apple issues a fix in six months?

Yes, I've been using the cable connected directly to the iMac and it still gives me the same error message. Tried restarting everything again fresh this morning and I'm still getting the same error messages. This only started immediately after installing the latest iTunes update on Friday evening around 6:15 PM ET, so I'm sure that has to be the cause, but I'm at a loss at how to correct it.

This should better explain a little bit Better of what going on. I would say also trying to restore your iPhone and see if it will sync that way. If it does then somewhere in the current software and iTunes are communicating. But first try what it says in the article as it has something to do with purchased content.

Strangely, I haven't had any issues with my iPhone syncing with the iMac (the iPhone is a 5S and I've only had it for less than 2 weeks). I don't have any of the add-on software listed in the article above, and I'd never had a single issue with the iPad failing to sync until this most recent iTunes update on the iMac. I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty much functionally illiterate when it comes to the finer aspects of technology, but I'm willing to bet that the issue has to be related to a flaw in the iTunes update itself. I'm just really frustrated at this point since nothing seems to be solvable.
