My ruler for note editor is missing, is there a way to restore default visual settings?

After editing a recording I was making, GarageBand decided to crash on me. After rebooting, the editor aspect of GB seemed to have been affected. The ruler is no longer apparent, the midi regions can not be located correctly. It is a brand new macbook which is really discouraging. I've searched up and down through settings to see if i can locate a ruler button of some sort, with no avail. If anyone has any information/experience with this issue, I would like to hear it as this problem is an quite annoying and makes editing tracks incredibly difficult!

Thanks

What is your GarageBand version? Are you using GarageBand '11 or 10.0.1?

I have not seen a similar problem with GarageBand 10.0.1, but usually problems with the graphical user interface are caused by broken preferences files.

Try HangTime's "oddball probs" fix and trash the GarageBand preferences file - move com.apple.garageband.plist from the Preferences folder in your user library to the Desktop.

See the FAQ:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)

For GarageBand '11 the preferences are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist

and for GarageBand 10.0 also in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/

You user library may still be hidden, as is the default:

To make it visible in Mavericks:

  • Quit GarageBand .
  • Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options". Enable "Show Library Folder".

User uploaded file

To make it visible in Lion or later open a Terminal window and enter exactly as written here:

chflags nohidden ~/Library

Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to Preferences.

Thanks for the reply! I have garageband 10.0.1 however the issue still remains. Deleting the files did not fix the editor. Another note: It is only on this specific project, the other projects are fine. This enabled me to copy and paste my track recordings over to a new project however that does not work. The audio does not function and the tracks are out of order. Do you have any other suggestions for how to transfer the recordings successfully or how to fix the editor?
