unable to share in new iMovie 10.0.2

I was eagerly awaiting 10.0.2 since in 10.0.1 I coudln't share movies.

well I can't share movies in 10.0.2 either 😟

I select a project and click share and nothing happens.

I've removed the whole package and reinstalled and rebooted and tried again and it still doesn't work.

If I load console and look in that I see the following error messages.

1/25/14 6:37:41.365 PM iMovie[257]: -[CKiOSSetting initWithContentsOfURL:]: init failed with url "file:///Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bund le/Contents/Frameworks/Compressor.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CompressorKit. framework/Resources/Settings/EFB_iOS.plist".

that file exists of course.
here's what's in it:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>settings</key>

<array>

<string>EFBiOS.setting</string>

<string>EFBiOS_MP.setting</string>

</array>

</dict>

</plist>

both of those settings files exist under:

/Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Conten ts/Frameworks/Compressor.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CompressorKit.framework /Versions/A/Resources/Settings

for giggles I removed all EFB_iOS files from under /Applications/iMovie.app but then the share button still fails but says those files do not exist.

next I removed the <string> values from the plist file, but that still failed to load.

I set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 and export CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 and then open -a /Applications/iMovie.app

and get this stack trace after the init failed console message

I am in the exact same boat (had issue with 10.0.1, and upgrade to 10.0.2 made no difference). I also receive the same error message (which I saw before and after the upgrade to 10.0.2):

1/26/2014 10:25:36.359 AM iMovie[873]: -[CKiOSSetting initWithContentsOfURL:]: init failed with url "file:///Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bund le/Contents/Frameworks/Compressor.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CompressorKit. framework/Resources/Settings/EFB_iOS.plist".

If relevant, I also see the following messages repeated often after the above message:

1/26/2014 10:25:41.336 AM iMovie[873]: AVF error: Perf capability check failed: 0xe00002be

1/26/2014 10:25:41.336 AM iMovie[873]: AVF error: Branch_QT0::pushBits, Context Creation Failed.

Also confirmed that the existance of the plist file and it looks exactly the same

This is extremely frustrating, especially after the release of the fix by Apple (with a fix for this issue specifically mentioned in the change log). For the record, I have also removed iMovie multiple times and re-installed (requiring a 2GB download from the App Store each time).

Since Sharing is a critical feature, it makes iMovie rather useless without it working. Open to any suggestions...

I was able to solve my problem. In case others are in the same boat, here is what I did:

- Go to /Library/QuickTime

- remove any 3rd party codecs you have (in my case, I had a version of Macam that was installed)

- restart your Mac and start iMovie

In my case, this was all I needed to do to get the Share button to work again. Hope it works for others as well.

I am on iMove 10.0.3 - same issue after installing iSkySoft Video Converter to convert iMovie output file to windows compatable WMV.

Ever since then, I am unable to share (save) a file from iMovie.

"The share operation "File" has failed.

Cannot creat file

I am not 100% if an update to iMove was installed since then or if this is due to the iSkySoft conveter. A file that used to export just fine, can no longer export.

Apr 20, 2014 2:12 PM in response to Hunttravail

I have discovered that the error is caused by a video format that iMovie appears not to (now) support while it did previously before I installed conversion software. When I removed the clip it could not support from the collection of clips in the movie, iMovie was able to share.

This is still a concern as it worked with that clip previously, but at least this bit of information may help those trying to export / share movies while we wait for a fix from Apple.
