Q: My movie is in the process of downloading, but it won't play back the section that has already downloaded. Is this typical?

I purchased a move from iTunes, and it's downloading. Can I get the movie to play before download is complete? I am not able to do this.

PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5 GHz), OS X Mavericks (10.9)
