Jan 26, 2014 5:04 AM in response to russellfromalbany creekby LowLuster,To eject the DVD at startup hold down one of the mouse buttons. If you are using a bluetooth mouse you might have to connect a USB mouse to complete this action.
As to why the system isn't fully starting I suspect you have a hard drive problem. See if you can boot to the recovery HD partition by holding down the Command + r keys at startup. Run Disk Utility to verify the drive.
