I have an old white 2006(?) MacBook. Is there any newer software on it than the 10.6.8? I tried mavericks but it's not compatible with this model 😟

Compatibility is not the question as much as "capability".
For anything newer, starting with Lion, you need a Core2Duo (not CoreDuo) and 4 GB RAM (less than 4 GB makes it dog slow).
SL can live on 1 GB RAM and places less of a demand on the system. Often SL is recommended for much older systems as newer would just run porrly.
