LOST MODE WONT LET ME REMOTELY CHANGE PASSCODE!

My problem is that I have an Ipod touch 32gb 5th gen device that was stolen by someone i used to live with who knows the 4 digit passcode to unlock the device. So when the device recieves the lost mode command from icloud, he will just put in the 4 digit passcode and it will send me a message in icloud saying the device has been found. He continue to use it no problem. Its just a matter of time before he puts the thing into dfu mode and restores it. HOW COME I CAN NOT ENTER A NEW PASSCODE WHEN TRIGGERING FIND MY IPOD USING LOST MODE??? PREVIOUS TO IOS 6-7 WHEN YOU GAVE THE COMMAND TO LOCK THE DEVICE IT WOULD ASK YOU TO ENTER A PASSCODE NOW IT JUST ARBITRAIRLY USES THE ONE ALREADY ON THE DEVICE.

So if I steal an ipod, ipad, or macbook and it has a passcode I am unable to enter, I am also unable to connect it to the internet. So before it ever recieves the signal from find my mac, I would have already restored it (dfu) to remove the passcode. SO I SHOULD NEVER USE ANY PASSCODE ON MY DEVICES.... so the thief can connect to the internet and the device can get the signal to initiate lost mode....... and, so I can choose a new passcode on the device that nobody POSSIBLY already knows.

Because if the device cant connect to the internet..... or the thief was a relative or friend who was welcome to use the device and knows its code .....

THAN LOST MODE IS TOTALLY USELESS

Please tell me I am wrong, and I can simply change the passcode remotely somehow like back in the good ol ios 5 days. or even better prompt it to only use my apple id to be considered "found"

iPod touch, iOS 7.0.4

Yes you can't change the screen lock posscode with iOS 7. Apple clearly says:

iCloud: Use Lost Mode

If your iOS device already has a passcode, that passcode is used to lock the device.

The person who has your iPod can place the iPod in recovery or DFU mode and then try to restore you iPod. However, with iOS 7 they have to enter the Appler ID and password used in Settings>iCloud to activate the device for use.

iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7

I would just remotele erase

iCloud: Erase your device

the device via iCloud and then contact the police.

Yes i think you have 1 mistake, because your friend know your passcode..

But i aggre with you, Apple should make ios device can connect to available internet connection from a lock screen AUTOMATICALLY !

Even iPhone 5S cannot connect to available internet connection from a lock screen AUTOMATICALLY. I made an experiment on my iphone 5s, just in case my iphone got stolen. But what i have found? Really dissapointed. "Find my iphone" application has many weakness:

1. Your iphone got stolen and you have passcode -> the thief eject the sim card and throw sim card away before you put it in the "Lost Mode" -> that thief also can turn your iphone off even in the "Lost Mode" -> and then turn on again. Congratulations ! Your Iphone will never be tracked again ! Because it lost the wifi connection and this "smart" phone cannot connect to available internet connection from a lock screen. There is no "next" come back online if Apple not fix this !

so, this is my opinion for help fix this problem:

1. The all ios device must able to AUTOMATICALLY search the available internet connection and connect to it regardless after reboot or after restart the device or after sim card threw away (no sim-card). So, we can tracked the lost/stolen ios device and put it in the Lost Mode!

2. There should be an option to connect to available internet connection from a lock screen even if you don't know the passcode AUTOMATICALLY.

- There is no use for "Find My Iphone" application if the iphone not connect to the internet connection (wifi/3g it doesn't matter).

Easy solution: While your iPod is connected to Wi-Fi, simply remote erase your iPod. It will get deleted and after restoring your friend has to enter your Apple ID to set it up again.

Your 'weakness of Find my iPhone has nothing to do with this app. For remote commands to just need internet, so either mobile data or wifi.

If you restart the phone the SIM will get locked and you cant enter it unless you enter your passcode (except you have Control Center enabled, i recommend to disable things like Siri, Control and Notification Center from Lock Screen) (With no Lost Mode)

Make sure you put your phone to Lost Mode IMMEDIATELY after noticing that you lost it in public places. If Erase all Data is on and you have a passcode youre safe. SIM will get locked after ejecting or restarting the phone, and after 10 wrong Passcode entrys the phone gets automatically erased and you have the famous 'Activation Lock' screen. (iOS 7) So the thief or founder can't use it, and a buyer can't also use it after selling.

You can't get your phone back, but you can be sure that no one else uses your iPhone.

I recommend:

- Disable Siri, Passbook, Notification Center, Control Center from Lock Screen (No Lost Mode)

- Set a Passcode and enable the "Erase my Data" function

- Set a PIN code for your SIM

- Enable Mobile Data at all times

- Use iOS 7 if you can and use iCloud + the Find my iPhone feature.

- Make sure you always have the newest version of iOS to prevent bypass bugs.

You are really don't experience "find my iphone" application..

What if:

1. i have passcode in my iphone and i turned on "find my iphone" feature.

2. the thief steal my iphone and he turn off the power IMMEDIATELY after he steal the iphone.

now, your iphone is gone forever, you can't track your iphone because after the thief restart the iphone, it enter the locked screen and cannot connect to the available internet.

yes, your iphone gone and the thief cannot use it because it is locked..

The worst case is:

Re: Can a Wi-Fi only Ipad in lost mode regain internet connection

AND

1. i dont put passcode in my iphone and i turned on "find my iphone" feature.

2. the thief steal my iphone and he turn off the power IMMEDIATELY after he steal the iphone.

3. the thief turned on again and it cannot connect to available internet connection.

4. now, the thief can see the data in your iphone, play the game and listen the music, the thief just simply disactivate the wifi and your iphone cannot be tracked.

So, i suggest that the iphone 5s device :

1. Must able to AUTOMATICALLY search the available internet connection and connect to it REGARDLESS after reboot or after restart the device or after sim card threw away.

OR

2. There should be a feature called "connect to available internet connection automatically", and if you want to turn off "connect to available internet connection automatically" , you should insert password, so the thief cannot turn it off.

So, this makes the thieves really restless and all that they can do is :

1. Take the phone out of range of the wifi router. (The thieves can't browse internet)

OR

2. Wrap the iPhone in aluminum foil. (The thieves can not use it)

OR

3. Place it in a metal container. (Now, that iphone is like a useless brick in a metal container)

OR

4. Turn the iphone off forever. (Really useless iphone for the thieves.)

Now, the iphone is REALLY useless for the thieves, they cannot go to anywhere with the iphone.Because if the thief go to public with the stolen iphone, there is a chance that the iphone is exposed to available internet connection and we can tracked again the lost/stolen iphone.

That's really makes the thieves think twice if they want to steal the iphone, and if they steal the iphone, at least there is a HOPE that we can track the iphone again.
