Why do I have a black screen on my new 4 month old iPad

Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Note: Data will not be affected.

That we cannot say, but have you tried doing a reboot to see if that wakes it up: hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

I have this issue as well:

1. iPad is non reponsive, screen always blank

2. try to enter recovery, nothing shows on screen

3. plug into itunes, recognizes an iPad, no serial number available

4. does not restore
