how to play mkv files in quick time ?

What version of QT? OS or IOS?

1) QT 7: Install the Perian codec package.

2) QT X: Install the Perian codec package. Be advised that if you later upgrade Mountain Lion to Mavericks or Yosemite that the files will no longer play in the QT X player but should convert when opened with Perian installed.

3) IOS Devises: Use the VLC (or similar) software player to open and play MKV content.

4) Convert the MLV files to H.264/AAC content for compatibility with all current OS/IOS, QT X, QT 7, and third-party players. (I normally prefer the free HandBrake app for this but any similar free or commercial converter should also work.)
