I was given a MSL code for unlocking my IPhone 5 upon termination stating other carriers will unlock upon providing the same but other carriers don't know how to unlock my using that code. Will Apple unlock if under warranty period?

I was given master subsidy code (MSL) by sprint upon terminating and was told that any carrier will unlock if MSL code is provided. But no carrier supports this which I learned after I quit Sprint. Who can help unlock this phone? (its still under Apple warranty).

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

If the GSM side of the iPhone is not already unlocked, only Sprint can unlock the iPhone or send the unlock request to Apple on your behalf. The unlocking process is done with iTunes on your computer.

Verizon doesn't have an MEID whitelist, that's Sprint.

If I try to activate my Sprint iPhone 6 online, it will fail because the Verizon activation portal doesn't recognize the device.

However, if I stick an already active Verizon SIM into my iPhone 6, CDMA and LTE will function without issue.

Here's an unlocked Sprint iPhone 5 making a successful call over the CDMA network as well as accessing LTE data. I'm not here to troll, I'm just here to share my experiences and don't understand why I am being called "clueless" or a "troll". I'm not insulting anyone else, why shouldn't the same be done to me?

No, it showed the phone using LTE data. And, in fact, it didn't even show a call being successfully made. It failed.

Verizon said specifically that some functions would not work. They specifically mention texts and CDMA voice calls. Other posts from people who have tried it (only on the iPhone 6/6+) have said that iMessage and Facetime don't work. There are also other posts, which you can research yourself (I'm not going to waste my time) that say that if you go to a Verizon store they will refuse to activate a non-Verizon phone or provide a SIM for it. The users who did get it to work partially (no one has gotten everything to work) said that they needed a previously activated SIM card that had been used in another phone.

So the advice to anyone reading this thread is don't use a non-Verizon phone on Verizon, because Verizon says they won't guarantee that it will work reliably, and this has been verified by other users.

The discussion here is specifically about an iPhone 4S. A 4S from Sprint or any other non Verizon carrier can NOT be activated on Verizon. End of story.

There is no such thing as a SIM that can activate a non LTE capable device on Verizon's network AT ALL. An LTE capable phone that is GSM unlocked can be activated on Verizon's LTE network (in violation of Verizon's stated policy), however, it will NOT have CDMA fallback capability, and Verizon will NOT support its use.

Now, either provide documentation from Verizon that states otherwise, or move on.

It will have CDMA fallback capability if the device supports CDMA. Activating an LTE Verizon SIM in a non-LTE device that supports CDMA will result in CDMA capability only. You can take a look at the file structure of any Verizon SIM and see that the CDMA provisioning info is on the SIM, not on the device.

It does not violate any policy to activate a non-Verizon phone on Verizon, they simply discourage it as they cannot guarantee full functionality. They don't prohibit it.

Tim is wrong on the iPhone 6 though, CDMA DOES work. I'm not in an LTE coverage area and can use Voice/Data on 1x/3G with my unlocked Sprint iPhone 6 without an issue. He can say something doesn't work all he wants to, doesn't mean he's right.

Your video did not demonstrate that it works on CDMA now that I watched it enlarged. The status bar cleary said LTE.

I doubt that your's works on CDMA, because, believe it or not, you are not the first one to try this. And others who have tried it and posted to the forum said it did not work on CDMA. Just as Verizon in their own forum said it would not work on CDMA.

It failed because *2 isn't a valid number, I'll make a new video.

Then why didn't they show it making a call? I'll tell you why, because it couldn't.

No one is saying that Verizon prohibits phones from other carriers. What we keep trying to explain is that the only ones that will work are 4G LTE and, even then, you may not have full functionality. That is what Verizon said in the article Lawrence quoted, too

I've also seen activation fail on unlocked iPhone 6 phones, even with an already active Verizon SIM on three occasions. In one case, it was an unlocked phone bought directly from Apple.

And again, that was due to the number I dialed being invalid which is my fault. I'm happy to revise the video showing the phone making a successful call. I never said their may or may not be issues with activation, the only thing I am saying is that Verizon does not prohibit non VZW devices on their network, they never have. Even in the days of flashing/ESN cloning Verizon still widely encouraged it as it was a way for them to penetrate a deeper market, Japan and China operate CDMA networks on the same bands as Verizon and China Telecom, a Chinese CDMA network, welcomes Sprint/Verizon iPhones with open arms.
