When I paste some blocks of text from a web page into Pages '09 they appear as objects. I know I can switch an object between inline and floating, but I don't want the text as an object at all — just conventional text, formatted or not, whatever works. How do I do this?

After you have pasted into the document select the text without the box and paste again. Delete the box. This happens because Pages 09 can "sense" if the text was in a table on the site and will retain it. I use Pages 08 instead as it will strip off the the table structure.

Thanks fruhulda. Your idea works but I can see why you'd use '08 (which I lack). '09 is being too clever here, at least for me.
As an aside I see that Word does much the same thing but even worse, in that half the text 'table' can end up hidden outside the margin without an intuitive way to recover it.
Menu > Edit > Paste and Match style

I had wrongly assumed 'match style' made the text look the same while keeping it as an object.
Don't try it with bot text and image because the image will not paste when using Match style.
