Q: I can't make Migration Assitant from an old IMac 10.5.8 to a MacBook Pro 10.9 work. Why?

Anyone have advice on why the host machine tells me to update the software on the source machine? I already did this....

Hello,

I believe MA in 10.5.8 only understands as high as 10.6 or maybe 10.7, other than upgrading the iMac to 10.6.8, it's possible FWTDM on the iMac may work to Migrate...

If it is a PowerPC Mac, you'll need this tip:

PowerPC is indicated by the G4 or G5 processor in Apple menu -> About This Mac.
Intel processors don't need to worry about it for the migration assistant. However, because you are migrating from 10.5.8, you'll likely have old PowerPC applications which need updating as well, and their associated documents, as this tip explains:
