Problem with file conversion between the new era and the old.

Well I have a Macintosh Classic and with the helpful advices from people here at Apple support I finally managed to install System 7.0.1

Recently I upgrade it with 4 MB RAM and now i want to find a program that can make slideshow.

My aim is to convert some .jpg photos to a file that the old Classic can recognize and make a photographic exhibition.Since Im a photographer for 20 years Im planing to scan some (100-200) old b/w negatives downgrade them to low resolution like dot by dot .mac files and put them inside producing a slideshow.

My problem practicing this to an Emulator Mini vMac is that all the old programs can paly and recognize only files produced by their own.

I started usinf Kid Pix 2 taht has a slideshow option but this can read only .pict files. Then I used GraphicConverter to my MacBook Pro and convert a .jpg and/or .mac photo file send it back to Mini vMac with ImportFi and no program can read it.

I have also Photoshop 0.63 to my Mini vMac tah can produce files that Kid Pix 2 cant recognize.

Im asking for a fast solution that can convert my .jpg photos to a file and a tiny program that can produce a decent without many effects slideshow.

Thank you in advance 😎ℹ

Hello Stelios,

Generally speaking, programs like GIFConverter, JPEGView or ClarisWorks are able to produce slide shows on older Macintosh computers. However, not all applications or versions can be used on a Macintosh Classic, due to its plain 68000 processor and lack of Color QuickDraw. So, do check the exact requirements for each program/version.

I suppose that you wish to carry out as much of the conversion work (from .jpg) as possible on a modern computer for speed reasons. It should not be impossible to find a file format that can be handled directly by an application on the Classic. Some file formats may appear in different versions. If necessary, try a conversion (either directly or from a suitable intermediate file) on the old Macintosh computer. I do not know what effect the use of an emulator had on the test results described above.
