Can't delete yellow highlight in Pages

I have a really important technical documents (bylaws etc) that were originally written in the older version of Pages. Some lines have yellow highlight behind them and now in the new Pages, there is no option in the inspector to get rid of the highlights. We can't even paste a new style over it. I cannot, repeat, cannot take the time to re-do everything. Even cutting and pasting is not working.

HELP!!!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Pages

Pages v5+ uses the term “Highlight” for Author comments. If you want to remove your character background (true highlighting) then you need to visit the gear icon next to the font color well. On the drop-down panel, you want Character Fill Color and click in the black color well, then select the red slash on a white background to turn off your current highlighting.

Clearly this is not a case of "patronising people who know what they are talking about".

Yes you do need to test, then you will discover that oddly Pages is not Word and you are giving bad and irrelevant advice.

What's interesting is that the majority of question are asking how to get rid of highlights on Word. I posted a comment then got trolled. No wonder most rational people hate Macs and Mac users. I won't bother commenting again because clearly most Mac users are only interesting in their own opinion and not actually in helping or supporting otherss. Good Grief!

Hi Peter,

Whether one has keyboard, or mouse pointer focus, in Finder, Pages '09 v4.3, or Pages v5.6.2, on El Capitan 10.11.6, the control + spacebar keyboard shortcut will open a Spotlight window.

On macOS Sierra 10.12.3, same drill, but with Pages '09 v4.3 and v6.0.5, the sequence has changed to command + spacebar.

Using Apple U.S. full-size keyboard with El Capitan, and built-in, U.S. keyboard on MacBook Air with Sierra.

" I am talking about working on a Word document..."

Are you working in MS Word then? If you were working in Pages, you would have been working on a Pages document. Pages can import Word documents and can Export a Pages document to a Word format file. Importing includes translating the Word document from its native format into a Pages document. Exporting includes translating a Pages document to MS Word format before saving it.

The question is about removing the highlight colour in Pages. cntrl+spacebar may remove colour highlighting from the text background in MS Word, but it did not do that in my tests with Pages 4 and Pages 5, as described in the screen shot of my test document below:

You are correct in stating that control-spacebar does not open Spotlight.

The keystroke combination to open Spotlight is command-spacebar.

You err in 'thinking' the most-updated version of Pages is 9.

The current version of Pages is 6.x.x

You can find the version of any Apple application in the first item of the Application menu when that application is running. When Pages is the active application the menu is named Pages, and its first item is About Pages.

The 'majority of question' where? You apparently didn't notice that this discussion is in an ASC community named "Pages" and deals with issues and techniques that involve Apple's word processing/page layout application "Pages."

Prior to your initial post, this thread contained the original question (which clearly stated the document showing the issue was created in "an older version of Pages" and had been opened in "a newer version of Pages") and 11 replies.

Five of those replies offered possible solutions specific to Pages or the the then current version of Pages.

One was a response from the OP saying the first suggestion had not worked as a solution.

Three were 'thank you' posts directed to three persons who had offered solutions that apparently worked for those responders.

The last two made no specific mention of Pages, but were quite clearly on topic, and offering support to others.

No mention at all of Word in any of the posts in this thread prior to yours.

Barry

You are adamant that you are right no matter what.

Look at the top of this page.

Does it say Pages for Mac or does it say Word?
