Hi, I'm using Windows Vista (64-bit version) and I'm having the same problem of "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services" as mentioned by others during installation, with 3 options to choose from Abort, Retry, and Ignore.

Mind you that i had a previous version of iTunes working (12.0.1.26) and when the newer version became available (12.1.0.71) I decided to update it and the above problem arose.

So, I found the article (Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates) on this subject and did as instructed in the order advised. The only

thing that I wasn't able to uninstall was the Apple Software Update because although it was listed in the Programs and Features but when i clicked on it, it didn't have any actions outlines such as "Uninstall, change or Repair " as the others do.

Anyhow, I uninstalled the rest and rebooted and checked all the folders as advised and deleted the only folder that still existed, being "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple".

Then proceeded to Install the new iTunes version again and again I had the same problem. So, when i ask to "Retry" it gives me the same error. When asking to Ignore, it finished the installation and mentions “Congratulations iTunes has been successfully installed in your system”. But when I try to actually run iTunes, then the following error comes up mentioning " iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)

So, what to do now?

I need iTunes to sync my contacts with Outlook.

Would appreciate a working solution - anyone???

I have had the same problem when I updated itunes about a month ago. I have spent countless hours doing research and following suggestions to fix but nothing has fixed the problem. I have even had a tech from my service provide spend at 8-10 hours over several sessions trying to solve without any luck. Always end up with Error 7 (Windows error 193). I was hoping the latest update this week would fix but just the same result. It seems the only solution is to a complete reload on my computer which I loath to do. It seems this is a common problem that Apple has no interest in fixing.

PROBLEM SOLVED! I followed your steps which match what Apple Support provides. The only difference is I was given a different link to download iTunes. It is the newest version but something about it being different in relation to the video card? I don't know but I followed your steps and then went to iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards) and it worked perfectly the first time so I hope this can be shared with some of the others who are still not getting a successful installation from your tutorial. 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to help the Apple Community!

I think I have invested more than 18 hours trying to solve this problem and I never did fix it. Windows 7(64) platform, Win SP and patches are all up to date. I did several COMPLETE uninstalls / reinstalls, disabled virus software, booted clean turning off all unessential background programs and services, all to no avail. I even went through and reset file and service permissions system-wide, NOPE. Nothing worked. I finally gave up and installed iTunes 11.3. It installed and is running just FINE on my system. There is some kind of incompatibility going on with version 12.1

iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

I spent hours and hours and hours and hours trying to fix this. I followed every single instruction to the letter and I still couldn't get iTunes up and running again. I found this link (above) and it works just fine. I have Windows 8.1 and iTunes was running very well until I stupidly agreed to let it update. Never again.
