Controller - M-Audio Pro 88

I'm attempting to set-up an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 as a controller for Logic -- putting the many faders, dials, and buttons to good use -- but am running into some difficulty. Though I can assign midi Key Commands to certain buttons, I'm not entirely sure if i'm heading in the right direction, programming wise. Has anyone had experience setting this up? A Logic song came with the keyboard, but it left me a little more than in the dark as far as extending the controller functions into other sessions.

Thanks much!

Ah, right. Actual details...go figure.

I want to use the faders and dials for track volume and pan. I've had mild success copying the entire Environment from the Logic session provided with my midi controller, but that doesn't seem to get me anywhere in the way i want: quickly working with my other sessions. Though M-Audio provided Logic setup instructions, they're terrible. Mostly, they show you a session where everything works and little else (for ex: http://www.maudio.co.uk/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=5833a67ef45b22fa3b4e2b5b8577 c3a1).

Being so new to Logic (coming from DP about a week ago), I might need to be a whole lot more familiar with how the Environment functions?

It seems the place to start is in Preferences>Control Surfaces>controller assignments. Here you can establish a connection with all your faders and assign them where and to what you want. [Being in a similar position except with the ProKeys 88 only no controllers].

You should have less to do with the environment until you get to establishing tracks with virtual inst. all you really need is the keyboard. You can let the tracks determine your various cha. assignments.

Hmm. Right. Well, this all continues to confuse me. I understand the advice, and how intuitive using the "controller assignments" function is, but making in work seems to hit a wall. At least for now

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna continue going through my manuals and pro training series and get more familiar with everything (read: avoid getting frustrated this early on).

Seriously though I may have been a bit hasty in saying what M-Audio can do here [as I hadn't fully explored my Ozonic's capabilities]. Compounding is the fact that all the Ozonics transport buttons are unrecognizable and therefore Logic couldn't them [a real drag]. In trying to assign Key commands from the menu I found that none of the buttons that were recognized would work for me.

So Alex, if your still around [that might change after LM gets ahold of this one]. But it's a good post because I'd like to know if the Keystation 88 is any more capable than my Ozonic [mainly I like the Ozonic's firewire powered/transfer ability].

So then for those of you who can conduct transport controls from behind the curtain on your keyboards like the Wizard of Oz, what controllers do you find work best [I assume Mackie is the brand name here so how many controllers can be trusted to accurately use Mackie logic control].

I bring this back up one as a prelude to an almost certainly necessary sermon from one R. Jones, wait er' LM, Lucky Man...?...where are you your preachers license is up. muZak calling forth...Peace and Renaissance will win the day never to fall remaining Ourselves overall...

Hi Alex.

I use a KeystationPro with my Logic/ Macbook Pro setup. I've not got around to assiging, or using for that matter, the Keystations pots and sliders, but... have you got hold of MAudio's controller editor? Available as a free download here:

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Enigma-main.html

Im afraid I cant give you any feedback on what this softwares like... but Ive mangaged to do a few simple controller assignment dumps with it. Need to spend some time with it myself.

All the best,

S.

To be frankly honest, I have found that using one of the Pro88 presets, it was much simpler to just use the assignments that were there and then 'learn' the various controllers into LogicPro.
The Enigma software is a bit of a pig in its naming system. ie What's on yer keyboard and what's on yer Mac. It just seems like an extra bit of crud that you don't really need.... or at least I haven't needed it here.

Hey guys glad this one resurfaced, Matrix I'm with ya on enigma it's a real short lived experience.

Steve; at first logic dumped all my settings that it had just learned too, but the second time I made sure to save the file immeadiately after learning and it didn't lose them so give that a shot.

So are you guys able to get Logic to use your transport buttons, Rec, play, etc? It just doesn't recognize them on my Ozonic.
