MacBook Pro "hard" to connect with external display

I have a MacbookPro 15" which I bought last year and runs with OSX 10.9.1. My problem is whenever try to connect it to my LG 27EA63 display it does not always do it. I plugin the HDMI part of the cable to the display then the mini diplay part to my MacBook, then the screen goes blank than comes back right after, like nothing have happened. I try to unplug it and plug it back 4-5 times then its working fine. Any ideas why does it happen ?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

A bad adapter would be my first guess. Maybe a faulty or 'loose' port on the display?

That was also my first thought, but the cable works just fine with an other diplay, also with an other MacBook.

What about the HDMI port on the display? I guess you would need another adapter to check that out...

But if there is something wrong with the HDMI port should not the problem also come up if I try it with an other device ?

Ah! When you wrote that "the cable works just fine with another display," I wasn't sure that you'd tried with another Mac with the same LG display and adapter. OK, well I'm stumped, then.

Also the body of the mac when it is connected to the charger the metal part electrocuting a bit. Not that bad just enough to make me able to feel it. Could it be related?
