App store (OSX) asking for wrong Apple ID

Hi all,

I work as an IT technician for a UK University. I have recently setup a new MacBook Pro for one of our users. As part of the setup I installed all the updates via system menu->software update. To do this I was prompted for my Apple ID which I entered and the updates proceeded to download and install.

However now the machin has been passed to it's user, and when they try and update they are prompted for my Apple ID, and cannot change the ID, we have even tried signing out in the App store and signing in as them, but they are still prompted for my Apple ID.

Is there a way to resolve this even if we have to re-download the updates.

Cheers.

Switch to the Featured tab and click the Account link. Now you can sign in with the correct Apple ID. After a successful login, switch back to the Updates tab and try the update again. It should recognize that you're already logged in and continue without prompting for the wrong Apple ID password.

This seems to be a bug in the App Store. Mine always asks for my daughter's Apple ID. No reason why it should. I need to use this workaround every time I update my apps.

What you have to remember is that Apps installed with an Apple ID are forever tied to that ID. The same goes with your updates, they too will need the original ID.

So the question is, while you could forego whatever you have now, could you then create a new ID and keep a record for future use by whoever?

I'm not sure how dangerous that may be in such an environment. Why don't you call the UK Apple Support number and ask to speak to their security team. They would be the people to advise you how to best meet these circumstances.

Well it's actually a MacBook Pro, not an iPad.......

But I was planning to try a re-install of OS, to see if that would fix it. Laptop is back with it's owner currently so she can back her data up first.

Since this was supplied with 10.9 pre-installed is there a way we can get a restore image ? Since 10.9 only seems to be available as an upgrade to 10.8 through the App store, or will 10.8 install on a current MacBook Pro ?

Cheers.
