mac won't print 11x17

I am having the same problem but with a Brother MFC J6920DW. I've tried uninstalling and re installing but still am having the same issue of the computer not telling the printer which tray to feed from based off paper size selected

Had this same problem at my workplace too. We have Ricoh printers rather than Xerox, so I went to Ricoh Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X, updated to the newest version and my paper options went from 5 (not including Tabloid) to 13 (with Tabloid!).

It sounds like you're not selecting the correct tray from the printer menu. Check the Media and Quality dropdown list when you view the expanded print dialog. You may also have different printer drivers than your colleague - check if there's an updated version from Software Update or the vendor website.

I am having the same issue from my Mac. I have the newest machine here and everyone else can print all sizes. Mine will print letter size, but not tabloid. So frustrating! It's not a tray issue or anything. The settings are what I've always used. I can't print from InDesign, Acrobat, or anything else. Please advise!

Have you tried reinstalling the printer? You have to first uninstall it, and save changes. Then reinstall the same printer.

System Preferences / Printers and Scanners.

To uninstall, select the printer and click the - (minus sign).

To install, click the + (plus sign).

So check this out: I had this issue for months on my work iMac with the two Xerox laser printers (7760 and 7750) we have in the office. I finally ended up giving up on the whole thing and just bothered co-workers to help me when I needed something on 11x17.

Here's the kicker - My employer was kind enough to buy me a new 2014 Mac Pro and it STILL HAPPENS.

It's driving me insane, and I can't seem to find a solution.

Also worth noting that all my design cohorts (9 of them) use Macs and have no problems printing any size they want.

It sounds like the Macs with access to the options have a printer-specific PPD installed where those that do not are connected using "Generic Postscript" or the like.

When you delete and read the printer, are you specifically selecting the printer model or just selecting Generic Postscript?

As it turns out, I'm the idiot. I honestly just thought, for whatever reason, that going to a site and downloading drivers for a printer was so 2003. I've had enough luck with OS X that I can't remember the last time I actually installed a driver from a disk or the web... Apparently I was the one using the generic postcript driver. I would install the printer in System Preferences and I thought that was all that needed to be done.

After a bit of poking around, I found that I had "Version 1.0" of the Xerox software, so I sought out a newer version on Xerox's site... and there it was – Version 2.0.13 – and now everything works as it should.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a perfect illustration of the follies of hubris. If you think you're too smart to even check if the thing that's broken is plugged into the wall, that's when you know it's time to check to make sure the thing is plugged into the wall.

I tried that. Still no luck. It only prints a portion of the full area on a 8.5x11.

Any news on this? I am having the same issue - when I choose ledger or tabloid, I am prompted to put 8.5 x 14 paper in the tray. I reinstalled the printer and the problem is still there.

You're awesome. I had it installed, but it had been using post script stuff.
