Unable to install OS X Mavericks

I have a 2009 13-inch Macbook running OS X Lion. I also have 2 GB of memory and at least 8 GB of available space but the App Store still won't let me install OS X Mavericks, saying it "cannot be installed to this computer" with no other explanation. This is really annoying as every time I try to run Final Cut Pro X it crashes as my OS isn't advanced enough for it so I really need to upgrade to Mavericks, please help!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Although the error message is different, try the steps in this support article:

OS X Lion: Installer reports "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer"

Other documentation says that you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume. Also, with only 2 GB of memory, you probably won't get full performance from Mavericks if you do manage to install it.
