I updated from the "new" Keynote (probably 6.01) to the latest version 6.1 a couple of days ago. Since the update when I try and export a recorded slideshow as a Quicktime video, the app crashes. I have tried exporting the slideshow as a Keynote '09 slideshow and then exporting it as a Quicktime video within the '09 app. That works but it is an inadequate workaround since you will lose a lot of transitions and builds that were in the original slideshow created in 6.01 or 6.1. In addition, this problem is not computer related since the problem exists on my MacMini too. Anyone else having this problem? I called Apple and they were no help whatsoever. Called them on a Calendar issue (giving me a 403 message when it updates) over the weekend and no help there either. This is just a mess. The computer is unusable...basically reduced to a ChromeBook.

    I can see that many people are interested in this post. Some of you must be having the same problem. I have been on the phone with Technical Support for at least two hours today and no solution yet. I just emailed a bunch of information to the iWork team that is looking into the problem more deeply. When I get a solution I will post it here.

    This is a well publicised problem, until Apple sort out all the issues with the export module and release an update, it will remain faulty.

    Is there a way to revert the update? This is a pretty killer bug.

    This is an absolute bummer because I need this feature to give a multi platform version of my keynote. Besides, there is not the option to export with auto pause, this is a major flaw IMO, since one should not state how long a slide should be viewed and slides have different contet so they should have a different timing to play.

    As far as I can tell there is no solution or workaround. Even if you manage to revert your version of Keynote to 6.0, you will get:



    Now going to try using Quicktime to record full-screen playback of the video (fortunately for my project I can change my screen resolution to match what I need).

    I'm encountering the same problem. The workaround for now is that you 'force quit' Keynote when it hangs during quicktime export and then open the presentation again, don't perform any changes in the presentation, simply open and export to quicktime again. It'll work.


    The problem occurs when you make any changes to the presentation and export. Opening a file and exporting it without making any changes is working for me. Although Apple should fix this.

    That didn't work for me. Glad it worked for you. A third person at Apple has contacted me and informed me that I will be hearing from another Senior Engineer. This would be three different people at Apple that have contacted me. Hopefully, we will get a solution soon.

    satpalsharma's workaround made it so the progress bar would show up but it would then crash after 1/10th of progress. Still won't export.

    For me Keynote was never crashing.. it shows up the progress bar but then hangs at about 1/10th like you mentioned. I force quit during that hang of progress bar and in next attempt it works.


    So may be you wanna try force quitting during that hang and try one more time to export?

    I put a movie in keynote and crashed than i clicked CANCEL then my computer restarted!! and showd the error screen

    I received the following statement in an email from the Apple iWork Team.


    "We would like to thank you for the information you provided. We are working on a fix, but, per Apple company policy, we cannot disclose any details about our investigation or provide any information on when an update containing a fix might be released."


    I believe we have been heard and hopefully an update is on its way. Thanks to everyone who either viewed or replied to my original post. Together, we got Apple to listen.
