I'd rather not replace the computer, as it still works, other than the screen damage. There is display damage due to an object being dropped on it. I'm not sure what the cost or process is with having to replace a laptop screen, figured it was worth asking, as Apple replaces iPhone screens or rather you can pay for a new phone at a cheaper cost. Any suggestions?

To get the best estimate, you should take it in to Apple for an evalutation. They will determine, as best they can, all existing damage and give you an estimate. The diagnosis and estimate is done at no charge.
Otherwise, the best anyone can offer is to suggest looking at parts prices on places like www.ifixit.com and guestimating labor charges if not doing it yourself.
The cost will depend on who does it. By all means get an estimate from Apple. Then shop around. Here's one outfit that does it for less than half what Apple charges, with a one year warranty:
