Q: Runtime Error! R6034 Error 7 (Windows error 1114)

Today (27/01/2014) I installed the latest available iTunes and iCloud Control Panel updates, restarted my laptop etc, now when I click to open the iTunes programme, a Windows dialogue box appears saying "Runtime Error! R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information." When I click 'OK', another dialogue box appears saying "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 1114)"

I am reluctant to uninstall iTunes as I have a lot of music on there from CDs that I no longer own and with nearly 3000 songs in my library I do not want to have to try and get everything back on there. Can someone please give me some guidance as to whether this is a fault with my laptop or an error with Apple, and if all my music will be wiped by uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Thanks.

    Hey there AllyBaxter,

It sounds like you have installed the latest iTunes update and now you cannot launch the program without this error message. First, before any troubleshooting is done you can use this article to find out the location of your iTunes library and back it up:

Where are my iTunes files located?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391

I would next use the troubleshooting from the following article to troubleshoot the iTunes error message you are getting:

iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376

    • "Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

    Check for .dll files

    1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
    2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.

    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes

    1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
    2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

Uninstalling iTunes should not compromise your library, but having a back up of your library is always a good idea.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    All the very best,

    Sterling

No, this does not fix the problem. I'm on Windows 7 and have had i-tunes on various PC's for years. The Run Time error message started about 10 days ago shortly after an automatic update to i-Tunes failed.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled i-Tunes twice this morning but during the installation continually get a warning that I don't have a mobile account; well, in fact I have long had an i-Tunes account but don't have i-Tunes on a mobile device and that was never a problem before. The error box during the download gives three alternatives regarding the mobile device: abort, retry or ignore. Abort indicated the download would stop so I then clicked ignore, finished the download, only to find I once again get Run Time error messages every time I open Internet Explorer, Firefox or i-Tunes. So I've now removed i-Tunes completely and don't plan to reinstall it until Apple fixes this problem, and if Apple doesn't want me to use i-Tunes and maybe eventually completely switch to Apple, this is a surefire way to do it. I need a solution here and so far Apple seems totally obvlivious to the problem they recently created.

There is no telling if Apple will relese a new version soon, or if that would be able to automactially install and fix all problems with a currently broken installation. If/when you want to try to fix things again see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Re: error code 6034. The method listed by Sterling worked for me on an HP desktop running Win7. Other solutions I tried did not mention moving all the dlls to the desktop and didn't work. I also uninstalled quicktime just to be sure. Didn't lose any music or other content files.

If you haven't already done so you can discard the .ddls you moved to the desktop.

These latest posts have been very helpful and I'm finally not getting the error message. I'm pretty adept at my PC but not at a level to finding hidden programs, .dll, etc. A simpler approach was to go to Control Panel on Windows 7, go to remove programs, click on Publisher so all the Apple programs show up together, and then do the various removals. The obvious ones were iTunes and Quick Time but I also found (and never knew they were there) programs for Apple updates and support and one for mobile.  My guess is that the Apple mobile function is the one causing the problem since it seemed to be the problem with updates and attempted reinstallations of Apple software in the past ten days. I left Safari in place and it doesn't seem to be a problem.  In a week or two I'll try downloading iTunes again and hopefully Apple will have fixed the problem, and if not, I'll first focus on removing  the peripheral programs, especially Apple mobile.
