Windows 8.1 and iPod Nano?

This is the message I get-"An iPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again." I have tried this and also checked my drivers. The report says they are all working except when I ran a diagnostic, a "red" dot said "No iPod was found. However, it did show in my hardware in the control panel. Please-can anyone help? It worked great with Windows 8.

iPod nano, Other OS, OS is Windows 8.1

I had the exact same issue and reinstalled iTunes, but it didn't work. Turns out you have to uninstall everything Apple related. See this guide for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 It worked fine for me, once I had uninstalled and reinstalled in the correct order.

I also had issues downloading the 64 bit iTunes installer, so I had to use this alternate link to download. http://support.apple.com/downloads/

Hopefully this helps someone! I spend several frustrated hours researching this so I was glad to share my solution.
