Jan 28, 2014 1:15 AM in response to Ashi96by Ingo2711,★HelpfulIf the new SIM card does not work in your new phone, you should contact the carrier again, you still might need the original supported SIM to start the new setup of the phone.
If you have a SIM card from a carrier that is different from your current carrier, and you've received confirmation from your current carrier that your iPhone is unlocked, follow these steps:
- Eject your SIM card and insert the new SIM card.
- Complete the setup process.
If you do not currently have another SIM card you can use, follow these steps to complete the process:
- Back up your iPhone.
- Erase your iPhone.
- Complete the setup assistant and restore your backup.
If the phone is locked with the Activation Lock, check this article how to remove it:

Jan 28, 2014 3:50 AM in response to Ingo2711by Ashi96,★Helpfulwhen i go to itunes on my lap top this message is promted
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information
Kindly do the needful
thanks

Jan 28, 2014 4:37 AM in response to Ashi96by Ingo2711,Then you'll have to contact AT&T again, only the carrier can start the unlocking process and pass the info to Apple and the iTunes database.

Jan 28, 2014 5:42 AM in response to Ashi96by Ingo2711,★HelpfulIt may take a few days until the unlock info is passed from the carrier to Apple. Besides contacting the carrier again and wait for the unlock process to be finished, you can't do anything at this time, sorry.

Jan 28, 2014 6:09 AM in response to Ashi96by Ingo2711,No, in order to use it as an iPod, you'll have to set up the device first, which you can't do if the SIM card is not working during the first setup of the phone.
