Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Please note:

I had exactly the same issue.. finally took a lot of time and uninstalled everything that had anything to do with Apple. itunes, Apple Software update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. After uninstalling my Programs and features selection showed that Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device was still listed, but in acuality they weren't. To verify that I did a search on the Start Window for those items and they didn't come up. I then rebooted my PC, went to the itunes website and downloaded itunes. Clicked on Run and it installed with no problems. I have Windows 7 and all my problems started after I had agreed to an Windows 7 update. Hope this works for you. RB

I'm having so many issues. I tried everything you prescribed to other people, and its still not working. I get to reinstalling itunes and it says "Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I've tried rerunning apple mobile device from administrative services and it gives me "Windows could not start the apple mobile device service on Local Computer. Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner."

I don't know what to do anymore! I just want my iTunes back. 😟

Any help would be extremely appreciated

reboot you pc. then go into Control panel, select programs and features. Select Apple software update, click uninstall. It takes a while so be patient. After that do the same procedure to uninstall itunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. All these take a while to get done so expect that. After all that, you may still see Bonjour and Apple Device Support listed under your Programs and Features but that doesn't mean they are still there. To check that, go to your start button and put in a search for thoseitems and if they don't show up, that means they're gone from you PC. Then reboot and go to the website to D/L itunes. Select Run. . That's what worked for me, it even recaptured my long list of songs in my library. Hope it works for you. My biggest frustration was the unistall process taking so long, and then seeing a couple of those items still listed in under Programs and Features, but like I mentioned earlier, that doesn't mean they are still there. My O/S is Windows 7.
