"use audio port for input" support instructions don't work macbook pro 13"

use combination audio port instructions do not work on mac book pro 13" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3625?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US . audio device is never detected on preferences sound box. what else can i do to use "headphones" as input port for garage band, etc. ?

The dual port was discontinued in 2012 13", it is now only an output port, no more input.

You will need to get a USB interface device, there are many available with different freatures and price points.User uploaded file


Just an example, search online for something that fits your needs.

All Mac Books with one audio port have audio in but:

- it is mono

- needs special cable converter from standard mini jack to 4 pin mini jack (the one like in iPhone headphones).


Easiest, and probably cheapest, solution will be to use Griffin iMic http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Technology-7725-IUAI-Audio-Interface/dp/B003Y5D776 /ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390938029&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+audio+interface+for+mac

It is really small.
