iTunes update stop in the middle, help!

hi everyone,

Just a few days ago, iTunes ask me to update so I started the process as what I've done before. But unexpectedly the process stopped in the middle and I could not understand what did the pop-up bubble said, so I simply start the update process over again. The process just stopped at the same spot.

I tried a few more times and then I gave up. The next day I repeated trying but the problem still exist. And I can't even operate iTunes anymore that it says a file called "MSVCR80.dll" is missing. 😟

The software update app suggested me to download the set-up app and install iTunes again.

I know this can be a solution, but would this make all my media in the iTunes library lost or what can I do to avoid the risk?

Please help! Thanks!

Hey gabrielleung225,

Follow the steps in this link to resolve the issue (you should not lose your library if you follow these steps):

iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376

When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so arearticularly important:

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:

  1. iTunes
  2. Apple Software Update
  3. Apple Mobile Device Support
  4. Bonjour
  5. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
